
A Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa allows the parent of an Australian Citizen, Australian Permanent Resident or an Eligible New Zealand citizen to visit Australia for up to 3 or 5 years. This visa allows parents to reunite with their children, and to experience all the stunning landscapes and limitless opportunities that Australia has to offer.
This visa involves a 2 step process, requiring that an action be taken by both the parent sponsor, and the parent. One could re-apply for a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa to visit up to a maximum period of 10 years in Australia.

Are You Eligible For a SC 870 Visa?
In order to be eligible for this visa you must:
be the biological parent, legal parent, step-parent or parent in-law of the child who is sponsoring you.
be at least 18 years of age
have an approved sponsorship
have met the health and character requirements
arrange adequate health insurance
have enough money to fund your stay
have a genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily

How Long Will It Take You To Get Your Visa?
The Department routinely publishes the processing times for all visa categories. The updated processing times for SC 870 visa are;
25% of applications: 44 Days
50% of applications: 70 Days
75% of applications: 4 Months
90% of applications: 5 Months

Are you an Eligible Sponsor?
In order to be eligible to sponsor your parents, you must:
be the biological child, adopted child, step-child, or the child’s spouse/de facto partner
be at least 18 years of age
be an Australian citizen, Australian Permanent Resident (Usually resident in Australia for 4 years), or New Zealand citizen. (Usually resident in Australia for 4 years
pass the income test (Your taxable income must be at least equal to, or greater than AUD83,454.80. If you cannot satisfy the income test by yourself, you can combine your taxable income with your partner’s taxable income to meet the requirement)
meet the character requirement

No, you cannot include your spouse or your other children in this application. All applicants must make individual applications,
You must be outside Australia when applying for this visa. However, you may acquire special permission to apply for the visa while in Australia.
You are not allowed to work while on an SC 870 visa.
